christianity ~ presbyterian ~ beliefs

We are a group of people who have expressed faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and acceptance of his lordship in our lives – or who are striving to understand what that means. We attempt to live our faith through love, in worship, fellowship, outreach, missions, and learning.
We have experienced the grace of God in our lives, and therefore want to extend God’s grace to others, especially those who are hurting. Other than agreeing on Jesus Christ as Savior and his lordship, we are people who hold different opinions on just about everything else! We do our best to offer a safe and enjoyable place for all of us who are seeking answers to real-life questions.
Speaking of enjoyable, take a look at our page Enjoying God at WRPC.

What does it mean to have faith in Jesus Christ?

Christianity is based on the life and teachings of Jesus as presented in the New Testament of the Bible. Followers, who are called Christians, believe there is only one God. Most Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human, and the savior of humanity whose coming was prophesied in the Old Testament. Consequently, Christians refer to Jesus as “Christ” or the messiah.
Most Christians believe that Jesus suffered, died, and was buried, and then rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, where he lives with God the Father. Most Christian denominations teach that Jesus will return to judge everybody, living and dead, and to forgive their sins in order to grant eternal life to those who believe in him and trust in him. He is considered the model of a virtuous life. His ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection are often referred to as the “gospel,” meaning “good news.”
Christianity claims approximately 2.2 billion believers throughout the world.

What does “Presbyterian” mean?

We are affiliated with Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), sometimes abbreviated as PC(USA). What does that tell you about us?

Our Authority
Our primary source document is the Holy Bible. There are two other books that help to inform our worship, service, and beliefs:

Part 1 of the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), it contains historical statements of what we as a church believe. They do not dictate what any specific member or any specific church must believe and practice.

Part 2 of the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). It contains the Foundations of Presbyterian Polity, the Form of Government, the Directory for Worship, and the Rules of Discipline.

What We Believe

“Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.
“God comes to us in free and undeserved favor in the person of Jesus Christ who lived, died, and rose for us that we might belong to God and serve Christ in the world. Following Jesus, Presbyterians are engaged in the world and in seeking thoughtful solutions to the challenges of our time.
“Presbyterians affirm that God comes to us with grace and love in the person of Jesus Christ, who lived, died, and rose for us so that we might have eternal and abundant life in him. As Christ’s disciples, called to ministry in his name, we seek to continue his mission of teaching the truth, feeding the hungry, healing the broken, and welcoming strangers. God sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within us, giving us the energy, intelligence, imagination, and love to be Christ’s faithful disciples in the world.”
