Waverly Road Presbyterian Church

...a place to experience God’s grace

Learning and Fellowship

We enjoy combining worship, fellowship and fun at Waverly Road. And it seems we’re often coming up with new ways to get that unique combination.

Perhaps our most popular opportunity for fellowship is WOW, which stands for Waverly on Wednesdays.  All ages meet in the Fellowship Hall at 5:30 p.m. for dinner, then gather for various classes and programs from 6:15-7:15 p.m.

At right: Families enjoy fellowship time at events like church picnics, where water balloon battles are taken seriously!

General Information

We like to keep our chilYouthdren and young adults busy with fun opportunities centered around learning and serving others.  At Waverly Road, we believe it takes the entire church to help nurture our youth.  We look for ways to highlight them regularly in worship services, whether that be in music, skits, mission trip reporting or other ways to let them shine.

Sunday SchoolWe offer Sunday School classes for infants through high school seniors.

Youth Groups—We have organized youth groups for elementary, middle school, and high school students.  These young people and their guests incorporate fun into age-relevant learning and worship opportunities.  Mission work is also a focus for our youth.

Middle School Youth meet on Wednesday evenings in Room 206 from 6:15-7:15 and on Sundays in the Fellowship Hall from 5:30-7 p.m.

High School Youth meet Wednesdays in Room 201 from 6:15-7:30 p.m. and on Sundays in the Fellowship Hall from 5:30-7 p.m.

We don’t forget our youth when they pack their bags for college. We have a special “Barnabas” program to make sure our college students are remembered and prayed for.

Music—Music is an integral part of worship at Waverly Road, and our youth play an important part in this ministry.  At a very young age, they’re given opportunities to participate in vocal and handbell choirs.  And we’re always looking for ways to incorporate their instruments into various services.

Camp—Holston Presbytery Camp  in nearby Banner Elk, N.C., has become a home-away-from-home for many of our youth.  They love their annual summer trips there, and some even return as camp counselors.

Vacation Bible School—Every summer we offer an exciting, adventure-filled VBS, aimed at educating young people in an environment that lets their creativity flow.
