Wednesday Afternoons at WATeR

The people of Waverly Road believe that the life of a child is significantly influenced by the relationships with those around them. An important human value is a sense of belonging and accomplishment and the ability to connect with peers and role models. As a people of faith who believe that we are all better off when our children are well-provided for, Waverly Road implemented an innovative after-school program to address the needs of children. Through the use of our space, volunteers, and staff we foster a positive, nurturing after-school experience focused on music, art, homework assistance and the provision of a healthy, nutritious meal while providing positive role models.
To that end, Waverly Road offers two spaces for our Elementary and Middle School Youth on Wednesdays. First, from 3:30 to 5:45, we offer an After-School Fellowship Program. A team of Volunteers and Staff pick up our children from any of the Kingsport city schools and bring them back to our special Fellowship space, called "Water". While at Water, they have free time to play board games, ping - pong, or our Wii. We also provide a quiet time for homework and reading and some group building activities. The youth and children are encouraged to participate in some of our arts opportunities, including crafts and music.

After dinner for all ages, we offer a Bible study opportunity for youth and adults. Two volunteers lead each age, incorporating Bible Lessons and life skills, while also allowing time for fun and play. The Program ends at 7:15pm, where the kids are either picked up by their parents or dropped off at home in our van.
We already visit many of the city schools and are available for pick up at any city in the city, from Elementary through High School. Check out our current route here.
